Change Cycles
Organizations go through change cycles just as inevitably as human beings. Examples of organizational change include:
- an Executive Director leaving
- a program cut
- staff terminations
- change in size
- change in organizational philosophy
- change in organizational priorities
- a union forming and/or a unionizing effort
- a merger of two organizations
These experiences can often create feelings of loss, betrayal, confusion and anger among staff. In these instances, it is useful to have a context in which to understand the change cycle. Acknowledgement and open discussion of change is a nonnegotiable element of change management. Many times it is useful to have a neutral, third person assist in this process. I often use The Change Cycle materials, as a framework. I have found that these materials provide a very accessible and meaningful way to understand change and what is needed in order to move productively through a change process.
The change cycle framework is one tool I use to support group work involving discussion, planning and visioning for how an organization can move through a change process productively and with confidence.
Please feel free to contact me to discuss your change issues and how I can be of assistance in facilitating a productive transition.
