Leadership Development
Effective, inspirational leaders are crucial to the longevity and success of nonprofit organizations. Unfortunately the job can be high in burn out and, at times, isolating. Supporting leaders in their ability to care for themselves and others is one of my goals in doing work in the area of leadership development. I have worked to support leaders in their roles in the following ways:
- with a management team to aid them in decision making and information sharing
- with a group of directors to help them identify the characteristics of effective leadership and develop individual goals congruent with their vision
- with an Executive Director to help her think through a tough decision about whether or not to keep a new senior person on staff
- with a newly formed team to help them decide what characteristics and talents they wanted from a team leader
- with an Interim Executive Director to assist her in laying out a plan for progressive discipline in a supportive way
- with an Interim Executive Director to help her develop a proposal about organizational structure for her board of directors.
I also conduct general workshops on leadership that can be offered to larger groups. Past workshops have included information about the skills of effective leaders, tools to assist teams in assessing their team leaders and information and discussion about the characteristics of effective teams. I have also used an assessment on leadership and influence style known as the Power Base Inventory.
In 2008, I joined the training team of Rockwood Leadership Program.
Please feel free to contact me to discuss your leadership issues and how I can be of help in supporting your organization’s leadership and/or in providing you additional resources.
