Mediation

Mediation is an effective way to resolve conflict, especially when the process is voluntary for all the parties involved. My mediation practice focuses on conflicts in nonprofit organizations. I have served as a mediator between co-workers, between an Executive Director and a Program Director and between several managers in an organization. For a more detailed list of my mediation work see Mediation Client List.

A very important issue in mediation is power and power imbalances. Prior to making an agreement to mediate, the parties meet with me to discuss the suitability of mediation for their specific conflict. In the initial meeting, part of our discussion involves outlining ways each party might deal with existing power imbalances.

I received a majority of my training from the Center for Mediation in Law. The Center’s approach to mediation focuses on promoting understanding between the parties in conflict. This type of mediation is known as understanding-based mediation. This approach to mediation falls closer on the spectrum to transformative mediation than directive mediation. I have also served as a community mediator for both Community Boards of SF and East Bay Community Mediation where I have conducted mediations in both Spanish and English.

Please feel free to contact me to discuss your mediation needs.
